217 Days and counting
Not much has happened since the last post, I continue to order stuff, plan and prep as time ticks down with the majority of my trip now booked.
I have 1 hotel left and car hire (plus some other stuff) left. The only real reason for holding off is cost. The closer it gets the cheaper it becomes. Car hire alone has dropped about 2 grand AUD since the last time I looked in Nov. It still has a way to go and certainly don’t expect that I will get it for the same price as my last trip but every dollar counts right? I even opened the elusive coin jar to see how that’s travelling. Funny how since Covid I use less coins but hey, that’s sitting on a tidy $50.00. Almost enough for a 1hrs parking in San Francisco lol.
I’ve recently had a few weeks off with annual leave and after nearly 3 weeks and heading back to work tomorrow I get the chance to sit down and see how its all travelling.
December I hurt my back, not really doing much other than sitting in a vehicle travelling from Kalgoorlie to Leonora for a prisoner transport. The cars not overly comfortable and the land cruiser is a pain. I cant physically close the drivers door without twisting my body towards the center (Im 6 ft and about 115kg, I’m not massive). So after a few hours like that its no wonder my lower back started screaming.
I had a rather bad flare with the CRPS in the lead up to XMAS day ( I assume from my back) and passed out at home with full body pain. I woke up on the bed, with only a distant memory of me saying to my wife, the world is spinning and I need to get to the bedroom. This does create some worry with my travels and managing pain and movement from a 25-30hr flight in a flying tube of farts and then constant driving. As you see the pick below my ankle from 2019 – 2.5 years after it was injured and the swelling it gets.
MRIs are booked and will see if I need to go through my injections in my disc as that was now 5 years ago. Im doing physio once or twice a week to try and help it along.
So, and as I have mentioned, the majority of this trip is in Canada with a short run down to see a photog friend in Idaho Falls named Rob, been chatting with Rob online for a few years and met up with him on my last trip in 2019, He tolerates my Aussie accent and incessant swearing lol. Its the complete opposite from my other trips where the good ol US of A is the focus.
I cant wait for the colder weather, we have recently had a good week or so with plus 40 deg C with up to about 46 Deg c. You can only strip off so much to cool down before it either becomes illegal or obscene, where as cold weather you can just add layers. That Im looking forward to it all though the flight back into Aus in Dec will be a wake me up for sure.
Best of all is I’m looking forward to not having the work phone and worrying about work. Its the type of job that never goes away and there is always something there when you come back.
